Understand pip value

Pip Calculator

Explore how pip size, position size and a conversion rate combine into an estimated value per pip. The result is a math example, not live market information.

Your example

The size of one pip for the pair.
lots
In standard lots.
units
Contract size. It varies by provider.
Account currency per 1 quote currency. Use 1 if they match.
Display only. It does not convert your amounts.

Simple formula

Pip size×lots×units per lot×conversion rate=pip value

Contract sizes, quoting conventions and rates differ by provider, and real pip values change with price.

Beginner guide

How to use the Pip Calculator

A pip is the smallest standard price step in most currency pairs. This calculator estimates what one pip is worth for a given position size, using assumptions you enter. The result is for learning, not a prediction.

  1. 1

    Choose the pip size

Most pairs use 0.0001. Yen pairs usually use 0.01.

  2. 2

    Enter the position size

Use lots. One standard lot is commonly 100,000 units, but contract sizes vary by provider.

  3. 3

    Enter units per lot

Change this if your example uses mini or micro lots, or a different contract size.

  4. 4

    Add a conversion rate

If the quote currency differs from your account currency, enter how many account-currency units equal one quote-currency unit. Use 1 if they match.

Worked example

For illustration only, a 0.0001 pip on 1 standard lot of 100,000 units is worth 10 in the quote currency. With a conversion rate of 1, that is USD 10 per pip.

0.0001 × 1 lot × 100,000 units = 10.00 per pip

What the result means

The output estimates how much value changes for each one-pip move on that position. Real pip values depend on the instrument, the price at the time and your account details.
